What is GR-PRO and who is it designed for?

GR-PRO is Brembo’s integrated braking system developed for the gravity MTB segment. Inspired by the systems approach and engineering precision Brembo brings to MotoGP™ and Formula 1®, GR-PRO is designed for riders seeking maximum braking power, modulation and control. It is ideal for downhill, trail/all-mountain, enduro and high-performance e-MTB applications.

Why a Brembo Mountain Bike braking system?

Brembo brings to mountain biking the same systems engineering approach refined through decades of MotoGP™, Formula 1® and off-road racing experience. GR-PRO is not just a collection of components, but a complete braking system designed to work in perfect synergy: caliper, master cylinder, disc, brake pads, hose and mineral oil have been developed together to deliver consistency, control and reliability even in the most demanding conditions. Designed for riders seeking a real advantage on descents, whether riding an enduro, downhill, trail/all-mountain or e-MTB bike. The system offers extensive adjustability, consistent braking performance, outstanding fade resistance and excellent thermal management. In short: more control, more consistency, more performance.

What is included in the kit?

The GR-PRO kit includes two brake calipers with pads installed, two brake master cylinders (right and left), two braided brake hoses and two additional sets of replacement brake pads. The main kit does not include brake discs, available separately in 200 mm and 220 mm diameters, nor Brembo mineral oil or the bleed kit, which must be purchased separately. Although some components are sold separately, all GR-PRO components have been designed to work exclusively as part of a single integrated braking system. All components must therefore be used together to ensure proper system operation. This is the same philosophy Brembo applies in MotoGP™ and OEM applications: every component contributes to delivering precise feel, consistent power and maximum reliability.

What is the intended use of the system?

BREMBO GR-PRO is designed for gravity and performance MTB applications, including downhill, enduro, trail/all-mountain and e-MTB riding.

What are the main features of the brake master cylinder?

The BREMBO GR-PRO brake master cylinder is designed to offer the highest level of adjustability, allowing every rider to tailor braking performance to their preferences and riding conditions. The axial master cylinder features a 65 mm lever and a 9 mm floating piston, a configuration developed to efficiently convert lever force into hydraulic pressure within the braking system. This contributes to high braking power, precision and consistent response. To provide a fully customizable setup, the master cylinder offers three independent adjustments:

• Ratio Adjustment: : available in three settings – Soft, Medium and Hard – allowing riders to tailor brake feel and response.
• Reach Adjustment: 40 reach positions enable optimal ergonomics for any hand size and riding style.
• Free Stroke Adjustment: Brembo’s patented system, adjustable in 7 positions, allows precise tuning of the brake engagement point for enhanced control and responsiveness

The result is a braking system perfectly adapted to the rider, delivering a level of customization and control inspired by motorsport.

What are the main features of the brake caliper?

The BREMBO GR-PRO brake caliper is a two-piece forged design engineered to maximize structural rigidity and deliver immediate, consistent response throughout every braking event. The four 18 mm pistons provide high braking force, delivering precise, stable and highly controllable braking performance. The system has also been developed to minimize residual drag torque, helping the wheel rotate more freely when braking is not applied. The result is powerful and precise braking, with immediate feedback and performance consistency that allows riders to maintain maximum control even on the longest and most demanding descents.

What color options are available for the brake master cylinder and caliper?

BREMBO GR-PRO is currently available in Brembo Red, a finish that perfectly reflects the system’s racing heritage and performance-focused character. What are the main features of the brake rotors?

BREMBO GR-PRO brake discs are available in 200 mm and 220 mm diameters, with a 2.3 mm thickness. These dimensions have been specifically developed to meet the demands of gravity riding and deliver maximum power, control and consistency in the most technical and demanding sections of the trail. The spoke design, derived from Brembo’s motorcycle racing expertise, has been optimized to balance mechanical strength, stiffness, heat management and weight. Disc hole geometry has also been carefully engineered to maintain consistent performance under extreme conditions, supporting heat dissipation and delivering predictable, precise brake feel. Discs are sold separately from the GR-PRO kit and have been designed to work in perfect synergy with the caliper, forming an integrated braking system capable of delivering consistent high performance from the first to the last braking point.

Are the brake pads pre-installed in the caliper?

Yes. The brake pads are pre-installed in the caliper to simplify installation and initial system setup.

What materials are used for the brake discs and brake pads?

The brake discs are manufactured from high-strength steel, while the brake pads feature a semi-metallic compound. The pad compound delivers strong initial bite and maintains consistent performance under high thermal loads and wet conditions, ensuring reliable control and braking performance in all riding situations.

Is BREMBO GR-PRO compatible with my bicycle?

The BREMBO GR-PRO braking system has been designed to be compatible with most mountain bikes on the market, provided they meet the following standards:
Caliper mount: Post Mount (PM) br> Disc mount: 6-bolt standard
Master cylinder clamp diameter: 22.2 mm.
To ensure correct installation and maximum safety and performance, always verify your bicycle manufacturer's specifications and confirm full compatibility of the frame and fork with the BREMBO GR-PRO system.

Integration options

Brembo offers dedicated mounting accessories that allow additional handlebar controls, such as shifters and dropper post remotes, to be integrated directly with the brake master cylinder clamp. A mounting support compatible with SRAM-style interfaces, including SRAM AXS POD controllers, is currently available. A Shimano compatible version is currently under development and will be available in the future. Mineral Oil

Brembo has developed its own mineral oil to ensure consistently reliable braking performance. Its viscosity remains stable throughout the entire operating temperature range, while its excellent fluidity ensures fast, uniform and predictable response even under severe thermal stress. The use of Brembo Mineral Oil is mandatory to ensure proper brake system operation and preserve performance over time.

How often should the brakes be bled?

Bleeding intervals depend on riding intensity and operating conditions. We recommend periodically inspecting the braking system to ensure optimum performance.

How do I replace the brake pads?

Brake pads should be replaced by following the procedure shown in the dedicated video tutorial within the"Installation & Assembly"section. Brembo recommends using only original replacement parts to ensure optimum performance and safety.

What is the average brake pad service life?

Brake pad life depends on riding style, environmental conditions and system usage intensity. Regular inspections help maintain peak system efficiency and consistent performance. Minimum friction compound thickness is 0,5 mm. Once this threshold is reached pads must be replaced. Pad friction compound thickness must be measured with an accurate caliper at the thinnest section of the friction compound.
In addition, brake pads must be replaced immediately if contaminated by oil, lubricants or any substance that could compromise braking performance.

What is the average brake disc service life?

Brake disc life depends on riding style, environmental conditions and system usage intensity. Regular inspections help maintain optimum system efficiency and performance. Replace the disc if any of the following conditions occur: the disc is bent or not perfectly flat; there are deep scratches or scuffs on the surface; the thickness is less than 2 mm (as indicated on the outside of the disc). Disc thickness must be measured in multiple points along the brake surface using an accurate caliper.

How should brake discs be cleaned?

For proper maintenance, brake discs should be cleaned using isopropyl alcohol and a clean lint-free cloth.
Avoid using non-specific cleaners, lubricants or oily substances that may contaminate the braking surface and negatively affect braking performance. In the event of contamination, the disc should be thoroughly cleaned, and any contaminated brake pads must be replaced to ensure safety and the proper functioning of the braking system.

What should I do if the brake lever feels spongy?

A spongy lever feel may indicate the presence of air within the hydraulic circuit or the need for system maintenance.
We recommend performing a complete bleed procedure and having the braking system inspected by a qualified service center.
